Steel Drumming at Stoke Minster: August 2024

This photo shows Gareth standing in front of a blue steel drum, he is tapping his drumsticks onto the surface of the drum and a music stand and sheet of music can be seen facing away from him. He is wearing a cream-coloured t-shirt, grey shorts, and sunglasses on his head. In the background, decorative wooden panels cover the walls of Stoke Minster and a blue and yellow flag is hanging from a flag pole. There are also red flowers, candles, and another drum in the background. This photo shows Angela, Hazel, John, and Geoff standing next to the Steel drums that they have been playing, each holding a pair of drumsticks. They are smiling and Hazel is laughing and holding one of her drumsticks in the air above Angela’s head. This photo shows the Steel Drums at Stoke Minster, the picture shows 4 drums in a row starting in the foreground and going into the distance, the drums are royal blue colour and each one is shaped like a very shallow bowl. On each drum's surface, circular shapes are drawn to show where to hit the drum to achieve each note. The notes from A to G are written on each of these shapes. Each drum has a pair of drumsticks placed on it. To the left of these drums are another 4 drums facing them, mostly out of shot. A music stand with music sheets can also be seen. The Steel drums are located upstairs in Stoke Minster, and colourful stained glass windows are in the background. This image shows someone inside a church. He is standing next to some musical equipment, specifically a drum set. They are wearing a red t-shirt. He's also wearing a baseball cap. The setting is quite distinctive, with large Gothic-style arched windows visible behind him. These windows have intricate tracery and leaded glass designs typical of church architecture. The interior walls are light-coloured, and there are some framed pictures or artworks visible on the wall. He is smiling at the camera and appears to be in the process of setting up or adjusting the drum set. There are also some cardboard boxes visible. The architectural elements, including the ornate arched doorways and windows, strongly indicate this is taking place in a church, though it's being used in an unconventional way with the presence of modern musical equipment. This image was taken inside a church, as evidenced by the ornate stained glass windows visible in the background. The room has high ceilings and Gothic-style architecture. In the foreground, there are two people standing near what looks like a set of steel drums or similar percussion instruments. These instruments are a bright blue color. On the left is a someone wearing a red baseball cap and a red t-shirt. On the right is a woman with shoulder-length blonde hair, wearing glasses. She's dressed in a black jacket over a red and white polka dot top. Both individuals appear to be looking at or working with sheet music on stands in front of them, suggesting they might be preparing for a musical performance or practice session. The setting creates an interesting contrast between the traditional church architecture and the modern steel drum instruments. This image shows several people playing blue steel drum instruments in what appears to be a church or similar ornate building. In the foreground, Klaudia can be seen with long dark hair wearing sunglasses. Behind her is another person with blonde hair and wearing a leopard print skirt holding drumsticks over one of the blue steel drums also playing a steel drum. Further back, there's a man in the background. The steel drums are a bright blue colour and appear to be arranged in a semicircle. There are music stands visible with sheet music on them. The background shows intricate wooden paneling or screens with Gothic-style carvings, typical of church architecture. This setting adds an interesting contrast between the traditional surroundings and the more modern instruments. This image shows a close-up view of people playing steel drums, also known as steel pans. The main focus is on a bright blue steel drum in the foreground, with a person's hand visible holding a drumstick and striking one of the note areas on the drum's surface. Behind this drum, you can see parts of other blue steel drums arranged together. There's a music stand holding sheet music, which appears to be a chart or guide for playing the steel drums. The title on the sheet music is partially visible but not entirely clear in the image. In the background, you can see some other musical equipment and what looks like a rehearsal or performance space. The lighting suggests an indoor setting. The image captures a moment of music-making, and the hands-on process of playing it.
