about local "happenings". Both are shown how to create sunlight catchers

in all activities. 3pm start with ten minutes on spin bikes -usual banter
with gym instructor, Ian, about how hard he's going to make them work.
Next, using barbells and light-weights, we go through a series of exercises
to tone the upper body before floor exercises to work the abdominal muscles.
Stretching exercises end the session and all head off home.
Friday Period 2
S6 students -Georgiana, Wendy, Laura, Deborah and Andrew - work alongside
individuals to help them complete their weekly xl diary. Achievements
are highlighted with targets being set for the coming week. Greg, Danny
and Ben have their comments scribed for them. Breakfast next - tea, toast,
muffins, chocolate spread etc. -are prepared with everyone contributing
to setting the table in preparation for our working breakfast. Discussion
takes place on forthcoming solo talk assessments in English. Petra, Kerry,
Sean, Lee and Steven are to give a presentation to the New Community Schools
and the Prince's Trust on their involvement with xI. It is agreed that
their presentation will count towards their English talk grade. Petra
remembers that she has speech therapy on Tuesday mornings so she won't
be able to participate. She is genuinely disappointed so she decides that
she will speak to the whole group on
Wednesday Period 5
about her life prior to, and subsequent to, her adoption at eight years
old from a Romanian orphanage. She asks to have her talk videoed to show
to her parents. Wednesday Period 5 Petra commences her talk fairly confident
as she is well organised, has notes and has practised at home. The group
are completely engrossed with what she tells of her background. After
the formal talk they ask many questions showing their interest and maybe
now they will begin to understand Petra better as a person. Petra handles
the questions superbly and speaks from the heart. Ten minutes of the period
left, so Petra shows her video of the children -including herself- in
the orphanage. Respect is shown by all.
