Inclusion of a Severely Physically Disabled Pupil in a Mainstream School

Why was this partnership activity necessary - concerns, aims, difficulties etc?

Where does this partnership operate?
In Viewlands Primary School and in Craighalbert

When does this work happen?
Weekly - Support for learning assistant spends a day with pupil and parent at Craighalbert. Pupil attends Viewlands 3 days per week.

How does the scheme work? How is it maintained, sustained and evaluated?
Parents are extremely supportive. Information is exchanged between parents, Craighalbert and Viewlands. Individual programme is planned and monitored by staff in both schools in consultation with parents and Health board staff. Viewlands staff have attended Maketon training evening sessions.

What are the benefits? What difference does this partnership make?
A pupil who is severely physically disabled and has no speech communication, is able to access the mainstream curriculum due to the sharing of knowledge and information among all who know her. It is hoped she can, as a result, achieve her full potential.
