Lochgelly High School and Fife Service for Children & Young People with a Sensory Impairment

Why was this partnership activity necessary - concerns, aims, difficulties etc?
To ensure that a totally blind pupil could achieve full potential in academic, social and cultural fields within his home community.

Where does this partnership operate?
Lochgelly High School Station Road Lochgelly Fife

When does this work happen?
Daily throughout the school year

How does the scheme work? How is it maintained, sustained and evaluated?
Carefully planned and initiated before enrolment. Staff discussion and in-service. Maintained by very friendly co-operation based on mutual respect among the V.I. pupil, his friends, V.I. staff, staff of Fife Society for the Blind, school Class Teachers and management. Evaluated informally by results: V.I. pupil plays saxophone in wind band, is an accomplished swimmer and chases around on playing fields at lunchtime.

What are the benefits? What difference does this partnership make?

  • Staff see how well they can effect inclusion if adequately supported.
  • Students, (tomorrow's colleagues and employers) see that impairment need not mean handicap.
  • Otherwise "macho" students allow themselves to be caring.
  • V.I. pupil is a full member of his local community
