Teamwork

Why was this partnership activity necessary - concerns, aims, difficulties etc?
Dean was having difficulty with written work, activities in the gym and joining in at playtime. Help with his motor skills was essential. His mother was anxious and wanted him to be able to take part in all activities.

Where does this partnership operate?
St Thomas R.C. Primary Arbroath

When does this work happen?
Support once a week. Specialist intervention received regularly.

How does the scheme work? How is it maintained, sustained and evaluated?
The school initially contacted various departments and agencies, to have his needs assessed. A record of needs was drawn up, with an Individual Educational Programme (IEP) for motor skills updated every 6 weeks. Educational Psychologist and Physiotherapist visit the school fairly regularly and an annual review involves all parties.

What are the benefits? What difference does this partnership make?
We can work as a team, rather than in isolation. I know when new exercises are recommended or introduced, also the aims, and can then incorporate them in the I.E.P. targets. If Dean forgets or tries to mislead me about current exercises, I have the information to hand.
