Toe By Toe Reading programme

Why was this partnership activity necessary - concerns, aims, difficulties etc?
Lack of time for support staff to see pupils individually. Aim is to use S6 tutors in partnership with S1 pupils to increase reading level, confidence and self-esteem.

Where does this partnership operate?
Learning Support Department, St Kentigern's Academy, Blackburn, West Lothian.

When does this work happen?
Three mornings per week 8.45 - 9.05

How does the scheme work? How is it maintained, sustained and evaluated?
S1 pupils are matched with S6 senior students. Regular sessions for reading. Evaluated through reading tasks and discussion with tutors.

What are the benefits? What difference does this partnership make?
Younger pupils make progress in reading and develop confidence through support by senior tutor. Senior pupils contribute to the learning environment and caring ethos of school.
