Lifelong Learning Programme - A Partnership Approach

Why was this partnership activity necessary - concerns, aims, difficulties etc?
SEN pupils were encouraged to choose SVS as a Standard Grade subject and usually had the support of an LS teacher. The more formal partnership evolved because SEN pupils sometimes needed extra differentiation of materials or extra time to complete work, in a learning by doing context.

Where does this partnership operate?
In the SVS class and in the LS Department. Also has links in the community, eg work placements and work experience.

When does this work happen?
Throughout the school session as timetabled.

How does the scheme work? How is it maintained, sustained and evaluated?
The developing links between the LS and SVS Departments are being built into the School Development Plan. The Senior Teacher SVS and Enterprise works closely with the PTLS. Pupils and teachers together set achievable targets which are reviewed regularly. At the end of each experience pupils self evaluate and evaluate the programme in addition to teacher evaluation.

What are the benefits? What difference does this partnership make?
SVS helps SEN pupils to achieve their full potential. It teaches lifeskills and reinforces core skills in a practical setting. Pupils can be totally integrated in SVS and this builds up self-esteem and increases confidence. It develops a 'can do' attitude.
