Early Intervention
P2 Edenside Primary School 1999/00/01

Early intervention has allowed primary 2 two 45min periods in the week with two classroom assistants.

We have chosen to use this time together. By involving two parents at the same time we then have six adults available.

We divide the two classes into 6 activity groups; (mixed ability and mixing children from both classes).

Over three weeks we cover 1 block of activities, (every adult teaching the same activity to each of the six groups in rotation).

Term 1: Most of our activities are based on teaching or consolidating Knowledge around the necessary language for maths activities covering aspects of measure, data handling, shape.

Term 2: Our major emphasis is WRITING.

Term 3: Covering aspects of the curriculum where it is beneficial to be working with smaller numbers.
Examples:

  • Roamer work
  • Mapping activities
  • Baking
  • Paper technology
  • Number/Maths/Ianguage games.

We feel the children are more secure in their knowledge as a result of this input. It is also very satisfying teaching and concentrating on smaller groups once the initial organisation is set up.
