Activity Time / Guided Writing

Why was this partnership activity necessary - concerns, aims, difficulties etc?
Prepare P2 children for independent writing giving a variety of structures in groups- working orally first to compose their writing with adult leading.

Where does this partnership operate?
In class. 1hr twice weekly. Groups of 8 children with each adult around white board/blackboard/flip chart and materials.

When does this work happen?
Activity time / Term 2 (Term 1: maths/measure activities) (Term 2: Problem solving activities)

How does the scheme work? How is it maintained, sustained and evaluated?
Two classes (P2) work together. Mixed into mixed ability groups. Rotate round activities. (Each adult does their activity 6 times). Materials prepared with instructions for adults - 2xCT. Nursery Nurse, Classroom Assistants, Parent Helpers. Enthusiasm about writing very marked - no opportunity to fail.

What are the benefits? What difference does this partnership make?
All the children are involved. Very positive ethos with all. Often the 'poorer' children have great ideas with oral work. Small groups ensure everyone on task. P3 have noticed the benefits the following year (3 years running). Children achieving level B writing.
