Literacy Hour

Why was this partnership activity necessary - concerns, aims, difficulties etc?
To focus on a "quality" reading time. Need for sufficient adults for group.

Where does this partnership operate?
Deshar Primary School P5/7

When does this work happen?
Deshar Primary School P5/7

How does the scheme work? How is it maintained, sustained and evaluated?
The children start together as a class with introduction on a theme, e.g. genre. They then divide into groups, each led by an adult according to teaching ability. They read/discuss etc, in group their scheme reading book. The last 10 minutes is a plenary session altogether when either they discuss what they have read or a particular point. Planned by one teacher. Evaluated by each adult - recorded.

What are the benefits? What difference does this partnership make?
Full focus of attention by adult on group for allotted time. Awareness of broader remit of reading. There has been a very noticeable improvement in reading. Enjoyed by children.
