Mini conference in Edinburgh on the 6th Oct - click on Mini to download details or see below
Since we had a poor response to our evening meetings last session, we have decided to hold two mini conferences, one in the Autumn term and one in the Spring term instead. The first of these is on Saturday, October 6th 2007 in the conference room at Braidburn Special School (107 Oxgangs Road North Edinburgh EH14 1ED) from 9.30 – 12.30. We hope to see you there!
Topic:
Movement/Occupational Therapy in Schools Come and hear Dr Christine MacIntyre and Alison Ashford inspire us with what schools can do to help students with OT needs.
Dr Christine Macintyre is an honorary fellow of Edinburgh University where she was a senior lecturer, teaching child development and research methods. Her first qualification was in physical education, followed by another in Psychology and these merged to give the research background for a PHd in ‘The assessment of movement’.
She now offers training and does consultancy work on many aspects of education including The importance of Movement for Learning, Play, The early identification of Additional learning needs and Research methods. She has written many books centered on the importance of movement for learning and the impact poor movement has on the social and emotional development of children as well as on the intellectual one.
Alison Ashford is the Team Leader for Children's Occupational Therapy in STIRLING. She previously did a presentation for SSLA on OT in schools and we are delighted that she will be returning to speak to us again
Cost: free to SSLA members and those in a Corporate Authority (currently Midlothian employees). Others £3.00.
